The new album, Daydream, by Dede Alder is a refreshing cocktail that is delightfully unique. It's clear to see the growth and developement of an artist who takes their work seriously, honing in on their skills and ever-expanding influences. In this album, we can hear many of the influences that have lead Dede to find her own mix of soundscapes from Africa, the eastern world and her own playfully quirky self. The execution of her percussive skills and knowledge of world music blend wonderfully with sweet, light-hearted harmonies. Lyricly, the album has a nice broad spectrum of topics and sentimentalities. There is something for everyone here.
Dede has a way of assembling sounds and melodies that are truly Dede. Her choice of musicians were perfect for the project. Her voice, writing skills and musicianship have reached a new level of maturity that will cleary continue to develop and it'll be exciting to see where she goes from here. For now, this album will have long legs - each song delivering its own personality like a party of interesting characters that are a joy to revel in.
