This world needs love. This world needs healing. This world needs hope. This world needs determined people of conviction who are doing the long-term visionary work of building communities who are doing it a different way. This world needs spirit-filled music and healing art and grooves to dance to. The storms seem to keep rolling in over the horizon and it's our choice whether to run and hide, get swept away in the flood of the status quo, or to be a part of building something resilient and transformative. There are no easy answers to the many challenges we face. But we can commit to being a part of seeking solutions in our own lives and in the lives of our friends and families and communities. As musicians, it is our task to continue to sing and make art that inspires and challenges.
Friends with the Weather is a project rooted in 16 years of songwriting & musical collaboration between myself and Seth Hendricks. Many seeds have been scattered over the years that have sprouted in this time and place with a depth of history and chemistry and a freshness of new collaborations and new material. We believe in these songs. We believe in the beautiful people a part of making this art. We believe in this project. We believe in our community.
We have been a part of making 10 albums previously but this is the first time that we are working with:
A professional studio, with the wonderful Jim Roll at Backseat Productions in Ann Arbor, MI.
A producer: the one and only Seth Bernard who is bringing so much wisdom & experience to the project. Seth also brings his guitar wizardry to the album.
A whole cast of soulful collaborators & friends who are bringing depth and groove and spirit to the songs. The core band is rounded out with keyboardist David Hupp, drummer Julian Allen and bassist Brennan Andes. The contributors include vocalists Madelyn Grant and Lindsay Lou; a horn section of trumpeter Ross Huff, saxaphonist Rachel Mazer, and trombonist Bethanni Grecynski; guitarist James Cornelison, and cellist Abby Alwin. We are also preparing to release a companion live acoustic session filmed and recorded at Johnny's Speakeasy in Ann Arbor, MI. Featured on this session are Brennan Andes, Jacob Jolliff of Yonder Mountain String Band, as well as Erin Zindle and Randall Moore of The Ragbirds, and Jacob Crouse of Mutual Kumquat.
We are so grateful for all of those who have already supported our Kickstarter campaign financially or by sharing with your friends. This is truly a community supported project that would not happen without your support! If you haven't yet joined the community of backers we invite you to check out the video and all of the great rewards that backers will receive.
We are also doing a special LIVE mini-concert on Thursday, July 14 from 3:00-3:30pm featuring Seth Hendricks, co-founder/lead-singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist of Friends with the Weather. You can tune in via Facebook LIVE (on the Friends with the Weather page) for this special solo acoustic mini-concert previewing songs off of the upcoming debut album. Seth & I will also be answering questions live about the new project and the band's current kickstarter campaign.
