Dan Rickabus

Dan Rickabus is a drummer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and educator living in Michigan. A founding member of The Crane Wives, Dan has cultivated his solo project to explore possibilities of collaboration, make wild recording-studio-ideas happen, and share his songs. His new full-length album "Ache in the Blooming" is ethereal, immersive, and imaginative. It features evocative performances from Seth Bernard on electric and acoustic guitar, Max Lockwood on bass guitar, piano and rhodes, and Jordan Hamilton on many layers of cello. Dan sang all of the vocals, played live drum kit, percussion, keys, synths, ukes, even a little guitar, and layered found sound samples. Ian Gorman recorded it at La Luna Recording & Sound, crafting tones as part of the creative process. The Lasso lent some ideas while he filmed on Super 8. Ian and Dan mixed the record as a duo. Samuel Peters brought it home with mastering. The cover artwork was painted and designed by Dayna Walton of Solstice Handmade. Dayna created a series of watercolor paintings, a visual world for the album.

As Dan digs into collaborations with a number of our brilliant Earthwork Music artists, he hopes that "Ache in the Blooming" can take you on a strange and beautiful journey in these bizarre and trying times to be a human being.
